2009 Acura TSX

Previously a taut sport sedan offering enthusiasts a lively, communicative driving experience along with Acura quality, the Acura TSX has become more of a luxury sedan for 2009. Many consumers will consider the latest version of the TSX to be "nice." Enthusiasts, however, will likely consider it watered down and boring.

Performance

Steering is light, perhaps too light, thanks to the electric power steering. Little feedback makes its way back to the driver, making it feel more like steering a Fisher-Price vehicle than a real one.

Acura TL Performance

The 2009 Acura TL is bigger, heavier and more powerful than the TL it replaces. Under the hood is a 3.5-liter V6 that produces 280 horsepower and 254 pound-feet of torque — only a smidge less than the outgoing, high-performance TL Type-S. Because of the weight gain, the '09 TL isn't quite the sprinter the Type-S was, but our test car accelerated from zero to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds, which is still respectable performance and on par with the BMW 328i. Out in the real world, the TL has no problem hauling itself up freeway on-ramps or dispatching slow-moving lane hogs. Although the TL's standard automatic transmission features only five speeds, it's hard to say it's any worse for wear, with smooth shifts, an eagerness to downshift (particularly in Sport mode) and standard paddle shifters.

Some thoughtful touches elsewhere helped to mitigate our frustration somewhat. For example, there's a nifty two-mode switch mounted on the inside lip of the tailgate — the first function closes the tailgate automatically, while the second closes it and then locks the entire vehicle. Also, the glovebox-mounted iPod interface works seamlessly, allowing song selection by artist name, track name, playlist name and so on. Disappointingly, the uplevel Harman Kardon stereo lacks clarity and provides generally mediocre sound.
